The Disclosure Foundation, which sponsored the forum, later published a policy brief arguing that a real disclosure scenario could force people and institutions to “reconsider long held assumptions about humanity’s place in the universe and the nature of reality itself.” The group’s proposed National Preparedness Framework for the Human Consequences of Disclosure is meant to anticipate not only planned declassifications, but also inconclusive, disputed, foreign, or unauthorized disclosures that could emerge unexpectedly.


What Counts as Evidence?

At the center of the conversation is a familiar scientific question: what would actually prove anything? The article suggests the bar remains high, especially when many purported sightings can be explained by technology or observation errors. That concern is why some researchers emphasize the importance of chain of custody, independent verification, and physical traces — not just compelling video or witness testimony.

That insistence on evidence also shapes the ongoing debate around Harvard astrophysicist Avi Loeb, whose controversial argument that the interstellar object _Oumuamua might have been artificial became a flashpoint for broader UFO discourse.
