Overview
NightByte Collective has released its first paranormal investigation video, documenting a nighttime visit to Norah Head, New South Wales, where the team explored locations including Cabbage Tree Bay and Pebbly Beach. The group — identified as Gary, Mel and Nicole — framed the investigation around local reports of unexplained activity and the area’s long maritime history. While the video presents the team’s findings as potential evidence of paranormal presence, the claims remain anecdotal and unverified.
Historical Context
A major part of the investigation focused on Norah Head’s history, particularly its ties to shipwrecks, wartime activity and early industrial use. The team highlighted the remains of rusted winches and ramps at Pebbly Beach, once used to remove beach gravel and minerals for construction and roadwork. They also referenced maritime incidents they believe may have left an imprint on the area, including the 480-ton Collier Paterson, which was beached in 1947, and the SS Gwydir, which was stranded in February 1942 after colliding with the French freighter Neo Hebrides. The investigators suggested that these events, along with records of naval conflict in the region during the World Wars, may contribute to the site’s reputation for reported hauntings.
Investigation Methods
To test for signs of paranormal activity, the group used a range of tools commonly associated with amateur ghost hunting. These included a Spirit Talker app, an EMF reader, dowsing rods, temperature sensors, UV torches and a digital voice recorder for possible electronic voice phenomena, or EVP. According to the team, the Spirit Talker app generated a series of names — “Walter,” “Morris,” “Charlie” and “Bill” — along with phrases such as “Stand your ground,” “They buried me here” and “I was a child.” The investigators presented these outputs as potentially meaningful responses, though such apps are widely debated and are not considered scientific instruments.
Reported Anomalies
During the session, the team said they experienced several physical and environmental sensations they interpreted as unusual. Nicole and Gary reported stomach churning and chills, while Mel said she felt a sharp burning pain in her arm. The group also claimed to hear footsteps on the sand despite seeing no one nearby. In addition, they pointed to a rock formation that appeared face-like, as well as what they described as shadow figures and orbs in the distance. Mel’s dowsing rods were also shown crossing and shifting in response to questions, which the team cited as evidence of an “intelligent presence.” As with many paranormal investigations, however, none of the reported phenomena were independently confirmed on camera.
Conclusion
After several hours of nighttime exploration, NightByte Collective said they were satisfied with the amount of activity they encountered, especially the names and historical references they believe were produced by their equipment. Their conclusion was that Norah Head is a site of significant paranormal interest, possibly connected to maritime tragedies and the lives of people who once worked along the coastline. The video is presented as the group’s debut investigation, and while it offers a mix of history, atmosphere and subjective experiences, it ultimately leaves viewers to decide whether the events reflect something unexplained or simply the challenges of documenting a dark, isolated environment.
