The role of Beverly McKittrick Gleason
The central source often cited for the allegation is Beverly McKittrick Gleason, Jackie Gleason’s second wife, who later said the story was true. According to her account, Gleason returned home after the alleged trip and told her that Nixon had taken him to Florida to see the bodies. She said he appeared convinced that what he had witnessed was real and that he was extremely upset by the experience. Beverly later repeated the story publicly, helping to cement it in UFO folklore. Yet even her account is still secondhand, based on what she said Gleason told her privately; Jackie Gleason himself never publicly confirmed the alleged incident.

The story has been retold in increasingly elaborate forms over time. In some versions, Nixon is said to have shown Gleason not only bodies but also a crashed flying saucer, fragments of an extraterrestrial craft, or even a spacecraft associated with the bodies.
