Reported Encounter
A newly published post details a 1967 photograph attributed to Ronnie Grey Hill, who was 14 when he said he encountered an unusual object and humanoid figure near Oriental, North Carolina. According to materials reproduced by the Alien Archivist publication on Sept. 28, 2026, Hill reported the incident on July 21, 1967, at approximately 2 a.m. He described seeing a bright white object, hearing a buzzing sound and observing what he identified as an “alien” during an encounter he said lasted roughly 30 minutes.
Hill’s account describes the figure as approximately 3 to 3½ feet tall, with a dark-brown face that had a greenish reflection and a “shiny silver suit.” He wrote that the object was about nine yards away and compared its apparent size to an orange held at arm’s length. In a later postscript, Hill stated that there had actually been two objects: one that he photographed and another, larger or otherwise unseen object behind the trees in nearby marshland.
The Photograph and Letter
The surviving material includes a color-restored reproduction of the photograph, Hill’s typed letter and several diagrams apparently intended to show the object’s position, the surrounding landscape and details of the reported event. In the letter, addressed to “Dell,” Hill wrote: “I inclose a photograph I have taken of an Alien. Also in the background is his ship.” He reportedly sent the image and written account to Flying Saucers-UFO Reports, a publication associated with historical UFO literature.
Hill’s notes provide a mixture of observational details and interpretations. He said the object was bright white—“about the color of a bright full moon”—and “stood still” before moving over the treetops and disappearing. He also wrote that its motion appeared to be remotely controlled. The account states that the sun was behind him, although the reported observation time of 2 a.m. appears inconsistent with that description unless it referred to a different portion of the event or reflected an error in the original notes.
Details Claimed by the Witness
Hill further stated that he wore glasses and that the object was sharply outlined. He described hearing a buzzing sound before noticing it and emphasized what he considered an unusual environmental detail: “there wasn’t an animals around.” He also referred to a “developing effect” visible in the photograph, though the supplied material does not establish whether that effect resulted from photographic processing, exposure conditions or another cause.
The diagrams and accompanying documents are presented as part of the historical record of Hill’s claim. They may help illustrate how he understood the scene at the time, but they do not independently establish the identity of the object or figure shown in the image.
Evidence and Remaining Questions
The material currently available provides Hill’s original account and associated visual materials, but no independent verification is supplied. There is no corroborating witness testimony, contemporary law-enforcement or newspaper report, photographic examination by an identified expert, or documented chain of custody for the original image described in the post. It is also unclear from the supplied information whether the photograph’s original negative survives, what camera and film were used, or whether the colorized version accurately represents the photograph’s original appearance.
As a result, the Oriental image remains a historical UFO claim rather than verified evidence of an extraterrestrial encounter. Its significance lies in preserving a detailed first-person account from the 1960s and the documents Hill used to support it. Further assessment would require access to the original photographic materials, contemporaneous records and independent technical analysis.
