James Franco teases alien footage in online videos
ILLUSTRATIVE RECONSTRUCTION // NOT EVIDENCE

Overview

James Franco has set off a fresh round of online speculation after posting a series of cryptic TikTok videos in which he appeared to claim he had encountered an alien and possessed footage of the alleged visitor. The posts, which have been rolling out since early June on an account using the actor’s name, culminated on July 13 with a grainy clip that appeared to show an alien-like figure moving near a home. The videos quickly drew attention for their strange tone, but many viewers questioned whether the entire sequence was a publicity stunt rather than a genuine disclosure.

The posts arrived at a moment when public interest in UAPs, UFOs, and possible extraterrestrial evidence remains unusually high, giving the videos a ready-made audience of believers, skeptics, and prank-watchers alike. A representative for Franco was contacted for comment, according to Newsweek, but no immediate response was reported.

The TikTok Trail

The account linked to the videos, @jamesfranco2319, began building suspense in early June by insisting it was “really me” and that it was not being used to promote anything. “I’m making this account because some serious s****’s going on, okay?” the speaker said in one early video, promising “crazy stuff” to come. Over the following weeks, more than 20 videos appeared, many depicting the actor pacing, sighing, or looking visibly stressed, as if documenting an escalating personal crisis.

On June 15, the account posted a clip in which Franco claimed he had seen something “inhuman” in his garage. In a follow-up, he said, “I want to make it clear that this is not a hoax, this is real, and I guess I didn’t make it clear last time, I think it’s an alien.” Later posts teased a reveal date of “7-13,” heightening expectations that some major claim—or reveal—was imminent.

The July 13 Reveal

When July 13 arrived, the account delivered what appeared to be the culmination of the buildup. In the video, Franco said, “The day is here,” adding that he had “found something” and felt compelled to make it public. He claimed the material had been “thrust upon” him, said he had not wanted to go on social media, and suggested he had been pressured by outside forces. Franco also said the account had been “hacked twice” and that people had tried to “shut me down so I don’t get this out.”

He then opened a laptop and pointed the camera at it, showing grainy black-and-white footage that seemed to capture an alien-like figure near his home and outside windows. The clip did not settle the matter. Instead, it intensified skepticism, with many users saying the footage looked staged or promotional rather than evidentiary.

Skepticism, Humor, and Possible Promotion

Reaction online was split between curiosity and ridicule. The widely followed @MarioNawfal X account wrote that the clip was “deeply strange,” that “the prank probability is HIGH,” and that the timing “screams ‘project announcement incoming.’” Other TikTok users echoed that view, with one commenting, “Better be a good f****** movie,” while another joked that Franco was “definitely still a great actor” because the performance was convincing enough to sell the bit.

The theory that the videos may be tied to a film project gained further traction because the account follows only a handful of other users, including one linked to “Love Meets in the Sunshine” and another belonging to Christian Guiton, whose bio identifies him as the film’s writer and director. That connection prompted additional speculation that the alien footage may be part of a broader marketing campaign, though filmmaker Christian Guiton later publicly disputed the idea. For now, the videos remain an internet mystery—one that has blurred the line between performance, promotion, and supposed paranormal revelation.
