Overview
A new federal release is drawing fresh attention to unexplained aerial activity, including video evidence from reported sightings in 2024 and 2025 in the northeastern United States. The Department of War, through its public UAP portal at war.gov/UFO, released a third batch of declassified UFO and Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena records on Friday, June 12, adding to an expanding archive of cases that continue to stir public curiosity and debate.
The latest release contains 53 documents, 10 images, six videos, and three NASA audio recordings contributed by agencies including the CIA, FBI, NASA, and the Department of Defense. While the files do not resolve what was seen, they offer a closer look at a category of incidents the government still labels unexplained, underscoring the steady stream of reports that has kept the issue in the public eye.
Key Sightings in the Release
Among the newly posted material is a video titled “Orbs Over the Pond,” which describes an October 2024 sighting at about 7 p.m. According to the Pentagon’s summary, a light was seen hovering above a pond from an estimated distance of 2,700 feet, and the incident was captured on an iPhone by a private citizen. The location was not disclosed. Investigators described the object as resembling a “plasma-like sphere” that changed shape and brightness over time.
The incident report says the object appeared to split into smaller luminous points at times, while a smaller light below the main source hovered close to the water without behaving like a reflection. The object reportedly stayed in place for about 45 minutes before disappearing, and the witness said no sound was heard. A second video, “Northeastern Orb Sighting,” reportedly took place within 25 miles of the first incident in July 2025 and shows two bright lights moving together through the sky. Officials summarized witness descriptions as silent, smooth, and coordinated, giving the impression the lights were either flying in formation or connected.
Broader Context and Other Reports
The release also includes accounts from federal law enforcement officers in the western United States describing unusual orb activity over two days in October 2023. In one report, smaller orbs appeared to emerge from a larger bright orange light. Another witness compared the motion to “grapes being expelled from a basketball,” a vivid description that illustrates how observers often struggle to explain what they saw.
These records remain unresolved cases, meaning the government has not made a definitive determination about the objects or lights described in them. That status is central to why UAP reporting continues to generate interest: the cases are documented, but not solved.
Transparency Effort Continues
The files were released as part of the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, or PURSUE, which the portal says follows President Donald Trump’s directive to increase transparency around UFO, UAP, and related government records. For researchers, skeptics, and the simply curious, the new batch adds more material to an evolving public record — one that shows the government is still cataloging reports even when answers remain elusive.
